The AFX open face helmets lack the full face coverage that full face helmets offer. As the name suggests the helmet covers the head and only a part of the face. Under this category AFX helmets offer three different designs; three quarter, flip up/modular and half face. Under the open face category, AFX helmets has the FX-42A AVIATOR STYLE, FX-43 with a shield, FX-50 with double shield and FX-75 with a snap on visor all available in XS-XXL sizes and FX-75Y which has the youth sizes YS-YL.

The three quarter AFX helmets are constructed in a similar to the full face version but lack the jaw piece and face shield. It is mainly designed for those riders who desire the wind blowing on their face. However the AFX helmets incorporate a visor and a shield to protect the eyes. The series under these categories are FX-37 and FX-75.

The modular AFX helmet integrates the features of the full face and three quarter model to result to a helmet that has all the features of a full face helmet but with a movable shield. The rider can opt to wear it full face or flip the shield if they prefer open face, for example when taking a photo or having a snack. AFX helmet models include FX-28 and FX-97 models

The half face design is small, lightweight and leaves a critical section of the head and face uncovered. They are light due to less material used to make than the full face model. This makes them more comfy for long distance riding. Due to its design and shape, it offers minimal wind resistance. There is also more improved air circulation thus the rider is cooler. The half face AFX helmets do not limit hearing since there is no ear covering on the sides therefore it is easy to hear traffic as you ride along. Since it does not cover the eyes, peripheral vision is not impaired thus the rider has a wider field of vision. Since it’s the most open amongst all AFX helmets, the chin straps on the half face model look more prominent. If you plan to take short rides or your motor bike is fitted with a windscreen, then this type of the AFX helmets should be your top choice. However, additional eye protection is required in form of goggles. AFX stocks the following half-helmets; FX-70 Freedom White, FX-72 Light Silver solid and FX-200 Flat Black solid.

Cons

Due to its configuration and design, the face and sides of the head are exposed thereby exposing part of the cranium, face, especially the chin and jaws to injury in case of impact. It is also likely to come off as it covers only the top of the head.

Other than their individual unique features, all AFX helmets share the following common characteristics;

• A composite thermoplastic poly-alloy shell design that is made using the latest technology.

• A clear finish coating to protect the graphics and paint.

• A flush scratch proof, compound, curved and side less, and a clear visor which protects the rider’s eyes against ultra Violet rays.

• You can opt for a tinted version of the shield.

• Detachable and washable antimicrobial nylon that is not likely to cause allergies.

• A chin strap that features a square D-ring.
